NGCM Summer Academy 2016: Python Basics B

Paul Chambers delivering the Intermediate Python course

To begin the NGCM Summer Academy 2016, students from the first and second cohort of the NGCM CDT, led by Paul Chambers, ran an intermediate Python course for participants looking to improve their Python programming skills.

The session started by setting up anaconda environments for any attendees that had not yet done so, and quickly moved on to a brief refresher on Python basics. After the first break the attendees worked through lessons and exercises on Tuples and Dictionaries, and Object-Oriented Programming using Python classes.

The materials were delivered using Jupyter Notebooks which allowed students to follow along and experiment with the course material. The training materials are available here.

A beginners course ran in tandem with the Basics B course called Python Basics A, covering more elementary topics needed to create basic scripts including: variables, arrays, strings, conditionals and loops.
