I was recently invited to take part as a trainer at a Software Carpentry workshop organised by the Software Sustainabilty Institute and the University of Southampton's Research Software Group. As part of this workshop I lead a session introducing the use of the shell along with some simple Bash scripting. I was joined by Ryan Pepper another member of the NGCM CDT who helped out during the workshop.
Over the course of the two day workshop, as well as learning about the shell, participants were introduced to Python, version control using Git and the concept of testing in scientific software development. The resources for the workshop can be found here.
Taking part in the workshop was both enjoyable and rewarding - I look forward to being involved in more workshops in the future!
